Make a List (check it twice)

waiting in line at the Post Office
Today was all about errands. Getting lots of things done. The kids are on winter break now, so they tagged along as took car of last-minute holiday tasks:
  • The UPS Store to mail packages
  • The Post Office to but stamps and mail Christmas cards
  • Weigh in at Weight Watchers (I lost a pound)
  • Target for some wrapping supplies
  • Laundry
  • Pack for Flagstaff (the kids and I are going to Flag for a few days to see Auntie Jennie, Emma, Gracie and Grammy).
  • Take Cassius to the vet.

For the most part, it was a routine sort of day. The kids were fabulous: Cooper listened relatively well and Shelby was super helpful. But our day took a turn for bad at Cassius' vet appointment. We took him for what we thought was just a cut that gotten infected. Instead, we were informed he has a tumor. It's the size of a donut on his right, hind hip. According to the vet and all I've read, tumors and cancer are common in boxers between the ages of 7 and 9. Cash is 7 now, so I guess he's in that fateful window. He has surgery on Wednesday. The tumor will be tested and if it's the aggressive, fast growing cancer then he's prognosis could be just 3 to 6 months.
Shelby was with me at the vet. When she heard the news, she burst into tears. And I teared up as well. It felt like my heart was being torn out of my chest. Seeing her heartbroken, hugging her pup was just so horrible. The two of them have grown up together. He loves her and she loves him. I can't even begin to think of our world without him.
