Day three: Week in My Life
Hello Wednesday. It's nice to see you. I love, yet hate Wednesdays. Here's a look at my Wednesday this week.
Observations: Wednesday is always my toughest day when I’m traveling. By Wednesday, I’m exhausted from the long hours and homesick, a bad combination.
Favorite moment: Shelby helped me pick out my dinner order. When I told her I was leaning toward a grilled cheese sandwich she said, “You’re a woman mom and women need more than just a grilled cheese sandwich. Those things are small mom.”
Gratitude: It’s hump day. I’m almost home and then on vacation. I have two full weeks of vacation planned, including a trip to Idaho.
Overheard: “I’m better than I deserve … “ according to Mike my shuttle driver.

7:54 a.m. Over slept yet again. I have been hitting the snooze button way too much. This morning I was so tired, my alarm startled me, I grabbed my phone and tossed it across my bed. Good thing it landed on my soft, comfy bed.
8:00 a.m. I spent a good 20 minutes on FaceTime with Shelby. She woke up really early (5:45a.m. Arizona time) and was waiting for me to wake up and get online so she could do FaceTime with me. Had to scramble to get a shower, do my makeup and get dressed.
8:55 a.m. Rushed breakfast of Fruit Loops and a sausage patty. I can never resist sausage on a hotel buffet.
9:10 a.m. Shuttle to the newspaper. My shuttle driver, Mike, is probably the friendliest, most positive person I’ve ever met. He remembered me each morning and has been chatty and kind the whole rive tot the paper.
9:31 a.m. Late to a conference call because I forgot to factor in the time difference. Thank goodness for Outlook reminders.
10 a.m. to Noon-ish Mad dash o get Datebook out. It was late L But only by eight minutes, which could be considered a small victory after the huge struggle we had on Monday to get Juice to press on Monday.
12:54 p.m. Quick lunch break with Claire and Angela a Palmer’s Deli. Broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl, brownie and iced tea.
1:45 p.m. Back at work and solved problems, answered questions, etc.
2:56 p.m. The main newsroom delivered popcorn to those of us working in the Design Studio. There is a full size popcorn machine in the newsroom here at the Des Moines Register. They regularly fire it up, pop popcorn and then have a fabulous afternoon snack.
5:30 p.m. Another meeting. Shocked? An after action review of the day and how things went with producing Datebook.
6:45 p.m. Quick planning and scheduling (phone) meeting with my boss.
7:41 p.m. Started my walk back to the hotel after my work day ended. This is the earliest I have been done all week. Took pictures of downtown. Talked to mike and kids.
8:01 p.m. Arrived at the hotel, the same one where Snoop Dogg was staying … he was in town performing. Shelby called me.
8:16 p.m. Ordered dinner – grilled cheese, sweet potatoes fries and some vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. Thank you room service. Ate Had dinner. Ordered "Hall Pass" on demand. Read blogs. And finally got my night note written and sent for work.
10:54 p.m. Bed (finally!)
