December: Day 4

The artwork is by Shelby

Journaling reads:

I’ve never really had an idea of what the perfect Christmas would be. Christmas has always been a wonderful time of year to me, no matter how it turned out in the end. I’ve spent Christmas away from my family … very far away. I’ve spent Christmas with parents going through a divorce. I’ve spent Christmas with a little baby girl who refused to sleep through the night. And this year, I have a toddler who insists on pulling down, thrashing and destroying everything he gets his hands on  --  so much so I’m contemplating not putting a tree up, much to my 6-year-old daughter’s horror.

But I feel like Christmas this year is perfect. It’s perfect when I hear my Shelby singing Christmas carols (getting most of the words correct) with all the glee and joy of a 6-year-old, as she decorates our home. Perfect as we hang our stockings and my husband mocks my burnt stocking yet again (he does it every year). Perfect even when my baby boy takes the wise man from the nativity scene and chucks him across the room. I love the surprise I have up my sleeve. Such a big surprise I won’t even write it down in fear it will leak out and be ruined. I’m giddy with excitement! I can’t wait until Christmas when all will be revealed.

I love my perfectly imperfect Christmas and wouldn’t change a thing.
