For what it's worth
Anyone who knows me, knows I'm pretty conservative, at least politically speaking. I might even goes as far as saying I'm very conservative. Many might be surprised when they realize my husband is a crazy liberal. We are very much political opposites. He's always pushing his canditates on me, but usually I just ignore him. Sometimes we even have some pretty heated arguments when we talk about politics. However, he and I have both been shocked with my reaction to Barack Obama. I can't say that I agree with Obama on all the issues, but every time I hear him speak, I am moved to tears. When I hear him speak I think, "I want my children to grow up in the kind of world he talks about. A world where we have hope. A world where all children are taken care of, receive quality educations and have access to health care."
I thought this video was inspiring, as was the speech that the song was based on.
I know I'm blessed and have a very good life, but not everyone is like me. Not everyone owns their own home. Not everyone doesn't have to worry about where their next meal comes from. Not everyone can take their sick child to the doctor and know they won't have to pay anything because they have health care. Much of what I have is based on my own hard work, but not all of it. I was blessed to be born to good parents. I was blessed to get a good education. And I'm blessed to live in a community filled with love and support. I feel for those people who haven't been as blessed as I've been and think all of us leading "blessed" lives have a moral obligation to help our fellow Americans. We can change lives for the good. I want to teach my daughter to help and serve others, so it's time for me to do the same.
In the end, I don't care so much if you agree with me. What's important is that you care about what's going on in the world; you ask questions; and you make an informed decision.
